2 Tips To Follow When Choosing A Roller Lid For Your Ute

Automotive Blog

Here are some tips to follow when choosing a roller lid for your Ute.

Consider whether you want an electric roller lid

There are some roller lids, such as the Roll R Cover Roller Lid, that are electric. You should carefully consider whether or not this type of lid might be right for your vehicle. Electric roller lids come with remotes that allow those who have them to open their lids or close them without getting out of their vehicles. Lids like the electric Roll R Cover Roller lid are normally priced higher than their manual equivalent, so your budget may be a factor that determines whether or not you buy this type of lid.

If you are the type of person who tends to misplace their belongings quite regularly, then a manual lid might be a more suitable choice than an electric lid. This is because an electric lid requires a remote you would need to store somewhere in your vehicle, as you might end up regularly losing this remote and then not being able to make use of the roller lid's automatic opening and closing feature. Likewise, if you often spill drinks when you're in the car, there's a good chance that you'll get liquids on this remote and damage it, in which case you might not be able to make use of it.

Consider whether you want a smooth or ridged roller lid

Both manual lids and electric lids are available with either ridged or smooth surfaces, and you'll also need to think about which of these might suit your vehicle best. If, for example, you like to wash your vehicle very regularly but don't have much time in which to clean it, a smooth roller lid might be a good choice, since a roller lid with a ridged pattern might not only accumulate dirt faster (as dirt will gather in its ridges) but will also take more time to clean. This is because you won't be able to wipe dirt off each section of it with a single sweeping motion in the way that you would if you were cleaning a smooth lid, but you will instead need to scrub each individual ridge to get the dirt out of it.

However, if you don't like cleaning your vehicle too often and want a roller lid whose design won't emphasise the dirt that's on it, a ridged lid would be an excellent choice. Unlike a smooth lid that will reflect the light that lands on it and show every mud splatter and piece of dust, a ridged lid's surface will be less reflective and so the dirt on it will not be as noticeable.

Buying, Repairing and Modifying Automobiles

Hello, my name is William and my passion in life is riding my automobile around town. I love to buy old wrecks and then spend months bringing them back to their former glory. My wife thinks I am completely mad but I keep telling her that you don't have to be mad to do what I do, but it certainly helps! I was a later comer to the world of auto salvage and repair. It was about 12 months ago when my friend Neil introduced me to it. Neil is a real expert and has taught me everything I need to know.
